Dawgs selected in 2004 MLB Draft

3 players from the Calgary Dawgs Baseball Club (past and present) were selected in the 2004 Major League Draft. Leading the way was 2003 Western Major League All Star and Rookie of the Year, Grant Richardson. Richardson, a junior 1st baseman from Washington State University was selected in the 14th round by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Also selected was Dawgs catcher, Adam Burton. Burton had an outstanding year at the University of Arkansas at Monticello and in his short stint with the Dawgs in 2004 had already impressed coaches with his strong arm and defensive skills as well as his ability to make consistent contact at the plate. Burton was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals and has signed with the Club.

Dawgs newcomer, RHP Kyler Newby of Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona had an outstanding year leading Mesa to the JUCO World Series this past season with a 10-4 record. Kyler was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks but is not expected to sign so Dawgs fans will have an opportunity this summer to watch this fine young prospect.

Congratulations to Richardson, Burton and Newby who join a long list of Calgary Dawgs to be selected in the Major League Draft.
