Dawgs sign AJ Fystro as Assistant Coach for 2005

Calgary Dawgs Baseball Club is pleased to announce that A.J. Fystro will return to the club as Associate Coach for the 2005 season. Coach Fystro was part of an outstanding 2004 Dawgs coaching staff which led the Dawgs to the 2004 WMBL Championship. Coach Fystro will again work with Manager and Head Coach David Robb who was honored as the “WMBL Outstanding Coach” for a masterful job in guiding the Dawgs to 7 straight playoff wins, including the championship game before almost 4000 fans at the Dawg Pound.

Coach Fystro is in his 5th year as an assistant coach with Merced College in California having joined the Blue Devils staff after completing his playing career with the Califoria junior college. Merced is one of the top junior college programs in the Central Valley Conference, with 7 state championships and 9 conference championships to its credit. Merced has also helped develop some 40 professional baseball players and 8 All Americans.

Coach Fystro has significant Canadian roots having been born in Peace River, Alberta. He has a serious baseball pedigree with father Clint having served as longtime Team Alberta, GM (currently a scout for the San Diego Padres) and brothers Doug Fystro, a former national team player who coached with the Calgary Dawgs Youth Team at the Peoria, Arizona Showcase and Bob Fystro, currently coaching at Allan Hancock Junior College in California. A.J. spent 2 years coaching Team Alberta at the Canada Cup, the premier showcase in the country for high school aged players and also managed the St. Alberta Tigers to appearances at the Western Canadian and National Championships.
