Ron
Oneson: Calgary Dawgs
Baseball Club is pleased to announce the signing of hard hitting,
1st Baseman Ron Oneson of Ashland University in Ohio. Oneson is
a 6’4”, 220 lb. sophomore 1st Baseman who makes his
home in the off-season in London, Ontario. Ashland is one of the
top ranked NCAA, Division 2 universities putting up a 43-11 record
over the 2004 season and is pre-season favorite to capture the North
Central Region in 2005. As a freshman, Oneson put up extremely impressive
numbers batting .350 with 15 extra base hits, 2 home runs and 46
RBIs. Prior to university, Oneson starred with the London Badgers,
one of Canada’s premier youth programs and was a key member
of Badgers’ 2001 Canadian national championship.
Hiarali
Garcia: Dawgs
are extremely pleased to add RHP, Hiarali Garcia to its pitching
staff for the 2005 summer collegiate season. Garcia is a 6’,
205 lb. freshman RHP who makes his home in Windsor, Ontario and
is currently playing for Coach Aric Thomas of Eastern Oklahoma State
College. Garcia is a highly regarded prospect with a fastball ranging
between 88 and 91 mph and 4 pitches which he consistently throws
for strikes. He is an outstanding competitor and a hard worker.
In Oklahoma, Garcia is on a pitching staff that includes former
Calgary Dawg, Scott Judson. The Dawgs
expect Hiarali to be one of the go to guys on the 2005 staff.
Brad
Crawford: Dawgs
have loaded up with some outstanding arms from Texas. Another key
addition to the 2005 staff is RHP Brad Crawford of Northeast Texas
Community College. NTCC has consistently been one of the stronger
programs in the tough Texas Junior College Circuit. Crawford is
a 6’, 200 lb. freshman RHP who throws mid to high 80s with
a sharp breaking slider and a plus changeup. Coach Rob St. Julien
of NTCC projects Brad to be one of the starters on the Eagles pitching
staff this coming season and describes him as “a command guy,
a strike thrower and a keen competitor”. Dawgs
believe Brad Crawford will be a great addition to a young and talented
2005 pitching staff.
“The Dawgs
are very excited to add Ron Oneson, Yari Garcia and Brad Crawford
to our 2005 roster. In Oneson we get a 1st baseman who will give
our infielders a big target and provide some major run production
for our offense. The offensive numbers he put up as a freshman at
Ashland are extremely impressive. In Yari Garcia we are getting
a potential 1 or 2 guy in our pitching rotation. He has great stuff
with that 90 mph fastball and he is a strong kid who can give us
some innings. We really like what we hear about Brad Crawford. Another
keen competitor with command. You cannot have too many of those
guys on your staff. All three of these guys will be impact players
on the 2005 Dawgs.”
