Add Speed To 2005 Outfield
Calgary
Dawgs
will feature some serious speed among its 2005 outfield corps. The
Dawgs are
pleased to announce the signing of some veterans as well as some
speedy newcomers to the team’s outfield for the upcoming summer
collegiate season.
Newcomers
include Chris Frye, a 6’1” 185 lb.
junior who hails from Minden, Louisiana and currently stars with
the Pilots of the University of LSU Shreveport. In addition to bringing
some serious speed to the top of the Dawgs
order, Frye has been one of the offensive leaders of LSU, batting
.308 with 5 home runs, 11 doubles, 35 runs and a team leading 34
RBIs during the past college season. Frye was a big part of LSU
earning a spot in the NAIA World Series on the campus of Lewis-Clark
State College.
Joining
Frye in the Dawgs
outfield will another speedster, Rudy Vallejos.
Vallejos is a 5’10” 195 lb. sophomore who makes his
home in Ottawa but is currently playing with Porterville College
in California. Rudy comes to the Dawgs
on the recommendation of professional scouts who are impressed with
his 6.6 sec. /60 yard speed, his strong arm from the outfield and
his power at the plate. Dawgs
look for Vallejos to be a major threat in their order.
The
Dawgs are
also extremely pleased to announce that Mik Dickson,
the starting center-fielder for the 2004 WMBL Championship club,
will be returning to patrol the outfield. Dickson is a 6’1”,
185 lb senior currently starring at the University of Nebraska in
Kearney. Dickson hails from Cochrane, Alberta and enjoyed outstanding
seasons with the Dawgs
Youth Team through high school before earning scholarships to Hill
College in Hilsboro, Texas and then University of Nebraska.
2004
Dawgs“Outfield
Rookie of the Year”, Colin Moro, also returns
as starting right fielder. Moro is a 6’1” 185 lb. sophomore
who makes his home in Calgary and earned a scholarship to LSU Shreveport
in Louisiana. Moro was a major contributor to the Dawgs
2004 Championship run, being the 3rd top hitter on the team at .311
with 4 home runs, 15 doubles, and 38 RBIs. He also made some outstanding
plays in the outfield, one to preserve a key win in the championship
series against the Swift Current Indians.
