Recuenco Returns With Pitching Prospect Stergiadis

Calgary Dawgs Baseball Club is pleased to announce the signing of WMBL All-star, middle infielder Robbie Recuenco of Armstrong Atlantic University in Savannah, Georgia along with talented RHP Jay Stergiadis from the University of Nebraska (Kearney).

Rob Recuenco: is a 5’10”, 175 lb. middle infielder who hails from Vancouver, BC and has been a standout for the Dawgs over the past 2 seasons. During the 2004 college season Robbie was sensational, batting .357 with a team leading 49 runs, 10 doubles and 2 home runs. For the Dawgs last summer Recuenco was a big part of the WMBL Championship team, batting .299 with a team leading 52 runs and 21 stolen bases. Robbie has been a catalyst for the Dawgs with electrifying speed on offence, gap power and a cannon across the infield.

Jay Stergiadis: is a 6’4”, 220 lb. Junior, RHP who hails from Pickering, Ontario and currently is projected to be one of the key starting pitchers in the rotation of Coach Damon Day at the University of Nebraska (Kearney). Jay was a highly touted transfer from Bluefield State College in West Virginia where he played with 2004 Dawgs middle infielder, Aaron Jamieson until Jamieson transferred to Marshall University. Stergiadis was honored as a preseason selection by Collegiate Baseball Magazine where he was identified as a “blue chip” player for Nebraska. Jay features a high 80s fastball and is a former member of Team Ontario.

Dawgs are thrilled to add 2 more quality players to the 2005 roster. Robbie is a fan favorite and WMBL All-star and Jay Stergiadis will battle for a spot in the starting rotation this summer. No question that both of these guys will make important contributions in the Dawgs’ run to repeat as WMBL Champions.”
