Training Update - April 4, 2004
A
number of Calgary Dawgs
players recently completed professional spring training camps in
Florida and Arizona and are set to embark on a fresh professional
baseball season.
2003 Dawgs
OF/RHP, Jimmy Henderson wrapped up a successful
spring training camp with the Montreal Expos in Viera, Florida.
Henderson has been assigned to the Expos, Single A affiliate in
the New York Penn League, the Vermont Expos. Look for HimHo to get
promoted to the Savannah Sand Gnats before too long.
Long-time Dawgs
3rd baseman, Emerson Frostad has completed his
first pro spring training camp with the Texas Rangers in Surprise,
Arizona. Emerson will now join the long season, Single A, Clinton
Lumberkings in Clinton, Iowa.
Dawgs centre
fielder and closer from the 2003 season, John Hurd,
completed his spring training camp with the Chicago White Sox in
Tuscon, Arizona and has been assigned to the Great Falls White Sox
of the Pioneer League.
Other former Dawgs
players completing spring training camps and loading up for their
2004 assignments include former Dawgs
ace RHP, Tanner Osberg. Osberg enjoyed his 2nd
spring training with the New York Mets in Port St. Lucie, Florida
and is expected to be assigned to the Capital City Bombers, the
long season Single A affiliate of the Mets.
Another RHP who starred with the Dawgs
before being drafted and signing a professional contract is David
Parker. Parker completed spring training with the Los Angeles
Dodgers in Vero Beach, Florida and has been assigned to the Ogden
Raptors of the Pioneer League.
In further professional baseball news, 2003 Dawgs catcher and WMBL
All Star, Mark Bomar, will be graduating from Niagara
University this spring where he is assisting Coach Mike McRae, enjoy
a visit with the folks down in his hometown of Austin, Texas, then
embarking on his professional career when he joins the Kalamazoo
Kings of the Frontier League. “Knock em dead, Bo!”
