Dawgs Load Up With Arms From Texas

Calgary Dawgs have bolstered the 2005 pitching staff adding 3 pitchers from NCAA contender, St. Edwards University of Austin, Texas. Joining the Dawgs will be RHP’s, Niel Smith, Michael Smego and Casey Plant.

Niel was effective pitching in the MINK League over the 2004 summer collegiate season and is expected to fill the closer role for Head Coach Jeremy Farber this coming spring. Dawgs look forward to seeing Niel close for the club in 2005. He features a mid to high 80s fastball with an effective curveball and change up.

Michael Smego is a 6’, 180 lb. RHP who hails from Katy, Texas. Michael earned All Star status as a starting pitcher in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League in the summer of 2004. As a freshman for the Hilltoppers this past season, Smego was 1-2 in 12 appearances and 30 innings pitched. Coach Farber describes Michael as a strike thrower with a fastball between 84 and 87 mph with good movement as well as a curveball, change up and cut fastball.

Casey Plant is a 6’3”, 195 lb. RHP who makes his hometown in Houston, Texas. During the 2004 summer collegiate season, Plant was a starter in the New York Collegiate League.
